Lafayette Afro-Rock Band – Soul Makossa (Vinyl LP, Strut 2024)
🎵 The Music Inside
Originally recorded in Paris in 1973, Soul Makossa is the explosive debut from the legendary Lafayette Afro-Rock Band—a melting pot of African rhythms, American funk, and psychedelic rock. Recorded after the group relocated from Long Island to France, the LP channels the post–James Brown funk explosion, blending breakbeat-heavy drums, hypnotic percussion, and raw horns. The title track is their powerhouse take on Manu Dibango’s global hit, with a deep, extended groove that DJs and producers still revere.
This 2024 Strut reissue was remastered from the original tapes at The Carvery, bringing new punch and clarity to one of the most collectible Afro-funk records of the 1970s.
